Pleasures, Delights, Amazing Things
Please note: advance tickets will only be available through February 12th. After that date, all tickets must be purchased at the door.
Important note about Event Schedules:
I know that many events have event schedules quite far in advance. Wicked’s exact schedule of dates and times will probably not be ready until rather near the event itself. That’s because we’re coordinating more entertainment than pretty much any event of even remotely this size and budget. So we are sorry about the wait–but it’s only because we’re bringing you such a vast array of good stuff that it’s hard for us to finish it all at once.
PROJECT MUNCHAUSEN
Featuring
Daniel GreenWolf
David H Lawrence XVII
Voltaire
Donna Lynch of Ego Likeness
and others
so before i let you go to the main list of things that will happen that you will like, let me talk about the extraordinary adventures of baron munchausen. it’s a game, and this is how you play:
you sit around in a group. you tell extraordinary but entirely true stories, based on a prompt.
Let me put it this way: Voltaire asks David H Lawrence XVII “So Baron, tell us, how did you incur the wrath of the god Vulcan?” and so David H Lawrence XVII does. Now, I do not personally know how Mr. Lawrence angered Vulcan, but I definitely know that Vulcan has a really hot and flirty wife so it’s easy to upset him. Then again, Vulcan has a bit of a temper, so there could be many reasons. And so gentle Mr. Lawrence would in fact relate the tale.
However, the kind board of storytellers would prefer there be no inconsistencies or factual errors in a tale that you swear to be true, on your honor, and so one could challenge. If Daniel GreenWolf feels that he must, then he can point out that the moon, in fact, has no air, not since the late 60s, and so Voltaire surely could not smell the Moon-Queen’s perfume.
Voltaire could apologize for the confusion, of course, because as soon as he arrived on the moon it seemed natural to have the moon’s own perception of scent gently insinuated into his mind through the vibrations of the great sublunar lattice, and that he is deeply sorry for the lapse, of course he was wearing a spacesuit. well, diving suit, but still. and he would continue his tale.
After everyone has told their tale, well, clearly we will need to choose the best story.
Which is how Project Munchausen will benefit the Summer Program for Academic Reach and Creativity, see?
If you make a $2 donation, then you will have a vote, and you will be able to help us determine the finest tale.
Do you know what SPARC is? It’s like summer camp for gifted kids, but the part that excites me is that you go to college classes with people in college and i would have killed for that at points in my life. I’m not complaining, i just think i really could have used a bit more exposure to that kind of academic style. probably would have done much better in college.
anyway. your money will go to help gifted kids be extraordinary, and that’s awesome.
if you are planning to attend, please RSVP at the facebook event page, because we want to be sure we have enough space.

February 2nd update:
pat again. do you like the shiny linky links for the clicking? much more navigable now. also: good lord we have a lot of performers and attractions and shiny shiny. we even have an animated gif now. (it’s full of pretty girls, too)
January 14th update:
this is pat, not jeff. gaze upon my labours and rejoice! sing to the heavens of the joy of hyperlinks! look at all these people who will be there for your amusement! and we’re still a month from the event!
December 24th update:
The sheer scope of this year is, to put it mildly, insane. Check back about once a week, and you’ll probably see several new performers every time. Far as I can tell, we may have more performers, entertainers, entertainment, and assorted activities in a given weekend than any convention or Renaissance Faire, anywhere. Help us keep that happening…pass the word along, if you would?
Older note:
I’m now updating the message that I updated a few weeks back, to mention that I really appreciate the feedback I’ve gotten on this year’s new approach – where we link to a performer’s website, and then talk about the performer over at www.wickedfaire.blogspot.com. You keep on a-readin’, we’ll keep on a-writin’!
And the original update said,
“So if you’ve been to this page before, you’ve seen the paragraph below:
If you’re looking for performers and wondering why that update is later than usual this year, it’s because we had a truly ridiculous number of applications for Wicked Faire V. We’d really, really like to try to have a fair application process, give new people a chance, and weigh performers carefully – so we’re trying to review as many applications as we can, all at once. IF this pays off, as we hope it will, it means updates will be a bit slower…but the end result may just kick the collective metaphorical buttocks of every year previous. Which is exactly my personal goal in life.
As of mid-November, we’ve started approving performers, and I’m going to be putting them up. If you’re familiar with Wicked, there’ll be both a lot of performers you know, and a lot of new faces. If you’re not as familiar…there’s going to be a buffet of entertainment. It’s awesome.”
Love,
Jeff

They are both pleased to be back at Wicked Faire for the second straight year, one of the only straight things about them.

David H Lawrence XVII

seriously, i don’t know where to start. he is on network television (not just as Eric Doyle on Heroes), he used to work for DARPA, he is a comedian and radio personality and he produces demos for voice acting. and he has a really pleasing website. go look, it’s neat. and i half want to point you to wikipedia, but his site will do that for me. seriously: do it. he has a pretty solid claim on inventing the podcast, before we had pods to cast to. and the XVII is awesome.

Ephemeral Flame

Ephemeral discovered fire performance the first year she attended Burning Man and immediately fell in love with its beauty, grace, and artistry the moment her eyes beheld it. Boldly, she approached the first person she saw spinning fire and asked all kinds of questions. By the end of the conversation, Ephemeral had been given a set of both practice flags and actual fire poi to start on her merry way with. And so she did. She spent the rest of that Burn watching every fire performer she could, mimicking moves and picking up hints here and there where she could. After that amazing week, she was back home in Texas – only, unlike at Burning Man, there wasn’t anyone she could learn from. This didn’t stop her, though, and a few months after her return home, on New Years’ Eve, she lit up for the first time.
Because Ephemeral didn’t have anyone else to train her, she graduated with her degree in fire performance from the school of hard knocks, learning moves and safety the hard way. Sure, she’s got a few scars from it, but having picked up wicks a few good years before people started spinning glow sticks at raves (which gave rise to fire spinning becoming more widely recognized), she not only developed her own very distinct style, she also did things that other people in the fire performance community previously said simply couldn’t be done.
Over the years, Ephemeral has been part of several troupes, taught fire performance arts to even more, and she has performed for almost any kind of event one can think of, ranging from public events, mitzvahs, birthdays, has performed with a number of bands, at conventions and exhibitions, store and various shop openings, at schools, for baptisms, weddings . . . and more.
Not only does Ephemeral spin traditional fire poi, she also spins fire staff, batons, performs with fire palms, fans, fingers, whips, wands, floggers (single and double), juggling (traditional and contact), and snakes. Next on her list of fire conquests is fire sword performance. For those who are interested, Ephemeral does offer lessons in all of the aforementioned forms that she has mastered. Videos with lessons for every level are also available, additionally, as well as other services. Ephemeral also writes at examiner.com

Atmosfear LARP

Welcome to the Other Side! What is the Other Side you say? Simply put, it is a realm of the dead. You are one of the dead in this realm. You can choose to be in a house or tribe. Once you join a house or tribe, what can you do now? Plenty. The houses and the tribes have entered into a time of restlessness. Loyalties are being tested, motives are being questioned, and deals and truces are on the verge of breaking. Peace must be restored at all costs, or the Other Side will degrade into chaos.
Players can choose to be a Vampire, Werewolf, Zombie, Mummy, Witch, Poltergeist, Restless One, or Soul Ranger. You don’t need prior knowledge of the world of Atmosfear, as introductions to the world will be made at the beginning of the game. This LARP highly encourages player interaction with one another. While combat is possible, it is strongly discouraged as there are better means of getting your goals accomplished.
The LARP begins at 8:00pm Friday and goes until about a half hour before convention closes on Sunday. This is a go anywhere, play anytime game. You can join the game anytime, and you don’t have to be there for the beginning. In addition, you can go off and watch/participate in another event, come back, etc. The GameMasters of the LARP will be wandering about Faire, they will be available to answer any of your questions, clarify any issues that come up, and mediate confrontations. If interested, please check out our Facebook group for more information or just come and join us in person! See you there!

Sex in Wonderland with Arthur Lipp-Bonewits

The Wonderland mythos has captured the imagination and libidos of many pornographers and filmmakers. Alice in Wonderland is the only children’s story I know of to be given repeated pornographic treatment. From the “art porn” film in 1976 to Wally Wood’s “Malice in Blunderland,” the very adult interpretations of such a seemingly innocent story beg the question… why? I’ll first do a brief overview of the adult adaptations, and then offer my personal feelings on the matter, which might just answer that question… Why is there so much sex and fetish in Alice in Wonderland?
Captain Zorikh

Captain Zorikh, the Time Traveling Bard, is a long-time favorite at Wicked Faire. For years his songs and stories of times long past and the far-flung future have brought a tear to the eye, a lump to the throat, and a knife to the back of many a hard-hearted warrior and lovely lass. And with the Warriors of Doom on hand, who know what sort of a ruckus may occur!

The Warriors themselves, male and female, will take on all challengers! Hire a Warrior for individual one-on-one training! And should you desire to wrestle with your buds on the mat, they will be available all day and all night for your enjoyment!
The Redemption of Captain Zorikh
“Redemption” (a Captain Zorikh thing) is the new movie featuring Captain Zorikh and the Warriors of Doom. With a cast that includes Hall of Fame martial artists, up and coming MMA fighters, pro wrestlers, competitive grapplers, and fetish wrestlers, this movie chronicles the journey of a man from the steamy underbelly of underground wrestling to the legit world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Packed with male, female, and mixed grappling, this sneak preview of Captain Zorikh’s first long-form movie is one you won’t want to miss. Check out previews and production videos on YouTube

from the bio: “this ‘exotic musical mobile’ evokes what Alice Coltrane’s ‘Journey in Satchidananda’ might sound like with Bjork singing over the top of it. the band’s repertoire bridges the delicate and explosive ~ from haunting lullabies to furious, mixed-meter rants; tightly-woven compositions in odd time signatures to catharsis-inducing, barn-burning mini-epics (oft-times within the same song). the sound is rich, organic, captivating, both dark and triumphant.” please check out the website www.jaggery.org and myspace: www.myspace.com/jaggery

Visit their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/egolikeness and definitely their youtube channel for a taste
David W. Jacobsen

from his bio: “His newest album, Walking Away From Wonderland, deals with losing touch as the years go by with friends, lovers, or even yourself. Some of the loss is humorously described in the form of break up songs where the narrator is happy the other person is gone. Others express longing for people, places, and times that are forever out of reach.” read more at http://www.davidwj.com/ and be sure to check out his myspace: www.myspace.com/davidwjacobsen
Katie Kat

this lady’s got pipes. and by that i mean that she is a classically trained opera singer, and i have more than once lost my train of thought due to her dulcet tones. you can hear some samples at her website.
Psyche Corporation

from the alternate bio (i like this one): “Hailing from a future dominated by neurotechnology, dendritic Internet connections and direct dream-downloads, Psyche Corporation is part of an early subliminal marketing initiative for a popular dream-manufacture company of the same name.”
you can find them here: www.psychecorporation.com and here: www.myspace.com/psychecorp and they have a youtube channel here: www.youtube.com/user/psychecorp
REPO! the Genetic Opera (with live shadowcast!)

hmm. how do i put this… do you know what REPO! is? do you know what a shadowcast is? (amazingly enough, wiki doesn’t. you should fix that.) well, we have repo, and a shadowcast. ta da!
(the shadowcast in question would be the Midnight Surgeons)
Terrance Zdunich (with his graphic novel The Molting)

so you know that whole REPO! thing above? this dude’s fault, and now he has a new graphic novel: The Molting, a multi-generational dark portrait of the American family as witnessed by our nearest and dearest companions, cockroaches. Terrance will also be appearing at the GeneCo Family Tea, 6pm on Saturday
Happy Hour Burlesque

mmm-mmm i do like me some almost nekkid ladies. i suppose i should point out that i’m not jeff. not that jeff doesn’t like almost nekkid ladies, i believe we’ve had more than one brief exchange to confirm that, but this is pat. and i do like me some almost nekkid ladies. especially when they wiggle. here is their youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/HappyHourBurlesque and this is their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/happyhourburlesque

_______
…This last part of the page was originally a placeholder, but people liked it so much that we’re keeping it, even though we’ve started updating performers. So here’s a taste of what past Wicked Faires and events have offered to see, hear, experience, try, do, be, learn, unlearn, explore, find, and damn well enjoy. If you like video, there’s also a documentary of Wicked Faire by our friends at ConGoer.
January 21 — there is also the following, a commercial for Wicked Faire V by our friends at Psyche Corporation
